Celebrate Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2019!

Albert Matthews's Blog | Celebrate Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2019!

Many of us know Labor Day as the long weekend we unofficially say goodbye to summer and hello to September.

But do you know how Labor Day originated? Here is a brief history of Labor Day.

Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. The labor movement created it in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. In the late 19th century as movements grew upon trade unions, so did a push for a holiday, the obviously named, Labor Day. It was a day to honor the American labor movement and the workers who contributed to strengthening laws for the well-being of our country. It first became a holiday in Oregon in 1887, the first American state to begin what would become an official federal holiday by 1894 for 30 states and now today, it is officially a day off for each state.

Labor Day 2019 occurs on Monday, September 2 (it's traditionally observed on the first Monday in September).
